Families Join the Drive for a Safer World at Ford Day 2004 in the Philippines

January 4, 2004

Ford Philippines recently culminated another successful year with the holding of the 2004 Ford Day dubbed as “Road Safety is no accident” at the Fort in Taguig. Ford customers, the media, guests and their families gathered together to join in the celebration of Ford’s drive for a safer world.

“Ford Day is a special day we dedicate to thank our customers and the public. We are also overwhelmed by the participation of our media friends in this year’s celebration. As part of Ford’s continuing commitment to road safety, we saw this as venue to share with the families of our customers and the public the importance of Road Safety in a fun and engaging way,” said Henry Co, President of Ford Group Philippines. “We hope that from this day, they will join us in our drive for a safer world.”

Ford has a long and proud history of leadership in safety that stretches back over the last 100 years. Henry Ford set the tone for the research and development that has brought many firsts to the mass public. Two of the most visible areas to consumers are the safety belts and airbags, which together have saved countless lives.

Some of these Ford Safety firsts include:

    1) 1955 - First automaker to factory install front seatbelts
    2) 1955 - First automaker to install child safety locks for rear doors
    3) 1966 - First automaker to develop and market a child restraint system
    4) 1968 - First automaker to enter into a joint venture to develop an airbag system
    5) 1970- First automaker to offer three-point seatbelt systems with auto-locking retractor

These “Safety Firsts” by Ford were showcased in an exhibit during Ford Day to allow guests to see the company’s pioneering commitment to Road Safety through the years.

The whole day activity was packed with pocket events that focused on communicating the importance of road safety for the entire family.

Kids were invited to participate in two road safety activities that taught them their first lessons on road safety. In the “Baby Drive My Car” activity, participating guests were tasked to go through a road safety track with a remote controlled car while the “Road Sign-making” contest encouraged kids’ creativity in coming up with their own version of road signs. Other activities were “Pin the Ford Oval”, face painting and balloon sculpting.

One of the highlights of the day was the Amazing Road Race, wherein teams raced to complete 8 road safety stops. Each stop reminded the participants of some basic tips to remember to ensure safe driving.

Other vehicles under the Ford family including Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar and Land Rover, also showed-off their latest line-up of vehicles via a motorcade and car display.

Finally, the 2004 Ford Day was made even more exciting with the hourly raffle of great prizes. One lucky guest went home with the grand prize of a trip for 3 to Boracay. Lucky winners of the pre-drawn raffle of the Ford Road Safety stickers were also awarded during the event.

Other booths featured activities such as vehicle test-drives, safety clinic by Tuason Racing, Goodyear, Standard Insurance and Pilipinas Shell. Souvenir photos for guests were provided by Fuji-YKL.

Ford Philippines’ Road Safety Campaign is part of Ford Motor Company’s global campaign in support of the World Health Organization (WHO), who officially dedicated its April 7, 2004 World Health Day to Road Safety.
