Probably the only comprehensive, easily available guide, at the moment, to road signs in the USA is the Manual of Traffic Signs.  The more clumsily titled 'Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices' [MUTCD] is the official book for road designers and engineers, but states certainly do not seem to treat its recommendations uniformly, and many signage variations may be found from state to state.

The National Campaign to Stop Red Light Running  is dedicated to reducing the incidence of red light running in the United States and the fatalities and injuries it causes. The Campaign has assembled a team of leaders from the fields of law enforcement, transportation engineering, healthcare and emergency medicine, and traffic safety, to tackle this crucial safety issue.

A report from the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) reveals that there are about 100,000 red light running crashes each year in the USA resulting in some 90,000 people injured and around 1,000 people killed.
